Lampshade refers to a fixture that covers the light bulb
on a lamp to diffuse the light it emits. Besides the practical
use of a lamp shade, much emphasis is also given to decorative
and aesthetic features. The lamp shade should match the
décor of the room and compliment it.
Sometimes we fall in love with a lamp and do not have
an idea to make it look more attractive by choosing the
right shade. In this article I will help you in the selection
of right glass lamp shades. The height of the shade should
be nearly three-quarters of the height of the base of lamp.
Ensure that the shade should cover the lamp’s hardware and
switch. View the lamp shade from various angles and see
that if they match with the paint, décor and other accessories
in your room.
If you have purchased a table lamp just sit at the chair
next to it and ascertain whether it covers the hardware.
The shade does not need to be as tall if the lamp is in
an entryway where you won’t be viewing it from a sitting
position. You can even change the height of a shade by swapping
out the harp, the metal structure that holds most lampshades
in place. A smaller harp will drop the shade lower. A larger
harp will lift the shade higher.
Make sure that the diameter of the shade is wider in comparison
to the diameter of the base. If you have placed the lamp
on a table near a wall the shade will be somewhat narrower
than the table or it will bump against the wall.
